Alex’s story in cycling
Alex Dowsett is a British professional cyclist who rides for Team Katusha-Alpecin and Great Britain. Alongside being a six time National Time Trial Champion, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and Former World Hour Record Holder, Alex is the only known elite professional sportsman with haemophilia.
“I was told I should probably play chess instead of racing bikes, but I’ve never let my condition stop me”.
After picking up a race bike when I was 13, I quickly discovered a talent I wasn’t aware I had. It felt right to go “fast”. I was fast tracked through the Great Britain talent development squad and signed with professional cycling team Sky in 2011 before heading to Spanish team Movistar in 2012.
With Movistar, I won a time trial stage of the Giro d’Italia in 2015 and conquered the World Hour Record. Cycling isn’t just “part” of my life.. It is my life!
